Arms racket busted at Jibantala

Kolkata: Special Operations Group (SOG) of Baruipur Police District busted an illegal arms racket and seized several types of arms and apparatus for manufacturing arms from a house at Jibantala in South 24 Parganas on Sunday night. Two persons have been arrested.

According to police, cops had been getting information about an illegal arms dealing racket being active somewhere in Jibantala. On Sunday, police got a tip-off that suspicious movement of some people were noticed at a house in Khun Khali Khagra village of Jibantala.

Based on the information, the SOG team conducted a raid at the house of a person identified as Akubbar Sardar and found multiple arms, in finished and semi-finished condition. During the raid, the police found another man identified as Amin Sanfui, who was also arrested but the third accused identified as Wahab Molla, who was present there somehow managed to escape.

During the search, the police found three single barrel long range guns measuring about 50 inches, three country made pistols, one six chambered revolver one 7.5 mm pistol and two bullets.

Also, six unfinished pistol magazine, one drilling machine one graze machine, 3.6 kg gun powder along with several more apparatus for manufacturing arms were seized. Later, the police raided the house of Molla from where a country made pistol and 3.5 kg gun powder were recovered.

Following the raid, Sardar and Sanfui were arrested and a case has been initiated against them at the Jibantala police station. Police are searching for Molla and others who are connected with the racket. Investigators are also nurturing the suspected angle of having connection with Munger in Bihar which is known for illegal arms manufacturing.

Earlier, SOG of Baruipur Police District had unearthed several illegal arms racket. Several arms racketeers were arrested and huge amount of arms were seized.
