Archaeological researcher found murdered in Bengal

Kolkata: An elderly archaeological researcher was on Thursday found brutally murdered in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said.
Sulekha Mukherjee, 65, was found lying dead on the floor of her house in Bandel. It seems she was attacked on Wednesday night during a robbery, a police officer said.
"There was a deep cut on her throat, caused by a sharp weapon. Her head was also hit with something heavy to ensure her death. Both rooms in the house were found ransacked and valuables stolen," the officer said.
Mukherjee, a former teacher involved in archaeological research after retirement, had many stones and carvings of historical and archaeological value in her possession.
Investigators said they would take a stock of all archaeological items in her house to check if something valuable had gone missing.
