Another Nagerbazar blast victim dies

Kolkata: An injured of the Nagerbazar blast has succumbed at a state-run hospital here taking the toll to two, an official of the medical establishment said Sunday.

Fruit seller Ajit Halder (38), who was badly injured in the October-2 blast at Nagerbazar in North 24 Parganas district, succumbed at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Saturday night, the official said.

"His condition has been deteriorating for the last few days and he passed away last night," the official said.

A seven-year-old child was killed and nine people, including his mother, were injured in the low-intensity explosion in front of a fruit stall in the northern suburb of the metropolis.

West Bengal CID, which has taken up the investigation into the blast, had earlier talked to Halder as the low-intensity blast took place in front of his shop.

"We were talking to him and trying to figure out what had happened during that time. He gave us many information. Much depended on his statement, but now that he has passed away, we'll have to rethink our methods of investigation," a CID officer said.

Meanwhile, the condition of another victim of the blast, Sharat Shetty, who is also undergoing treatment at the same hospital, is stated to be critical, the hospital official said.

The mother of the seven-year-old victim of the blast is also undergoing treatment at the SSKM hospital, an official of the state-run facility said.
