Ambedkar's 127th b'day to be celebrated in all 341 blocks

The 127th birth anniversary of Babasaheb B R Ambedkar will be held in all the 341 blocks in the state on April 14.

The programme will begin with garlanding of the photograph of the Father of Indian Constitution at 11 am. This will be followed by a discussion on the Indian Constitution with special emphasis on his role to reserve Constitutional rights for the backward classes.

This is for the first time when the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar will be observed in all the blocks following instructions from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The programme will start at 11 am in all the blocks and its duration will continue for about an hour.

Senior state government officials felt it was necessary to make the state government employees aware of the Indian Constitution and the role played by Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Being a prolific student, he earned doctorates in economics from both Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and gained a reputation as a scholar for his research in law, economics and political science.

In his early career, he was an economist, professor, and lawyer. His later life was marked by his political activities after he became involved in campaigning and negotiations for India's Independence, publishing journals, advocating political rights and social freedom for Dalits, and contributing significantly to the establishment of the state of India.
