Altercation breaks out after poor food is served, 2 arrested

Kolkata: Two persons were arrested from South Kolkata on charges of attempting to murder a youth during pandal hopping early on Saturday morning.
Police said at around 3.20 am on September 30, a 22-year-old youth Surajit Halder, a resident of S N Roy Road at Behala along with his friends went to a restaurant at Banerjee Para near Karunamoyee Junction to have food in between pandal hopping.
The youth had complained to the restaurant owner about the poor quality of food served to them which led to an altercation.
The altercation continued for around half-an-hour but the situation turned worse when three men in an inebriated state went inside the restaurant and attacked Surajit and his friends.
They abused the youth, who were astonished to find someone unknown intervening between them and the restaurant owner.
One of the three men took out a gun when they asked them not to interfere into the matter which they said could be mutually sorted out.
The accused opened fire which led to panic in the area.
People started running for shelter. Finding that the situation was going out of control, all the three accused fled the spot.
Police came to know names of the accused after preliminary investigation and arrested two of them within a few hours of the incident.
Nakul Sapui and Dipankar Naskar have been arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of attempt to
murder (307 IPC), acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention (34 IPC) and 25 (1B)(a)/27 of the Arms Act.
Police have recovered two firearms and two cartridges from the accused. The police are trying to figure out from where they had managed to get the firearms.
