Alleged arms dealer arrested in Regent Park

Kolkata: A youth has been arrested at Regent Park police station for allegedly dealing in arms and setting up a gang in Narendrapur and its adjoining areas.

According to police, since last one month they came to know from their sources that a group of youths were setting up a gang in and around Narendrapur area and the gang leader and members had started dealing in illegal arms and ammunitions.

A few days ago, police came to know about a youth identified as Sanjay Sarkar, who was the leader of the gang. They acquired his mobile number as well.

Police also came to know that the gang members kept in touch with each other through WhatsApp. Following the information, police continued to keep a track on the said mobile number and on Tuesday night, officials of Regent Park police station came to know that Sarkar had come to the area. Immediately, a team from the police station went to his location and nabbed him.

During search, police found an improvised pistol along with a magazine and ammunition. According to sources, earlier the gang used to operate within the Narendrapur area. Recently, they had expanded the gang and started receiving orders from several places adjacent to South 24-Parganas.

They were also gathering more youths in order to make the gang bigger. Police are interrogating Sarkar to track the other gang members who are still on the run.

They are also trying to find out from where they used to procure the arms which they used to sell.

Apart from this, on Wednesday afternoon three persons with arms have been arrested at the Entally police station with several finished and unfinished arms.

In connection with an Arms Act case of Entally police station, the trio's name cropped up and police had been trying to track them for the last few days.

On Wednesday afternoon, they were arrested from Taratala area.
