AI flight makes emergency landing after engine breaks down

Kolkata: An Air India flight made emergency landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata on Friday afternoon after one of its engine malfunctioned.

According to sources, on Friday, around 10:45 am, Air India flight AI 233 took off from NSCBI Airport for Yangon via Gaya.

It reached Gaya around 12 pm with 55 passengers.

From Gaya a few others boarded the flight and it took off from Gaya at 12:45 pm for Yangon.

The pilot received an alert on the flight panel console that one of its engine had malfunctioned.

The pilot found that the

right engine has stopped working.

He sent an SOS message to

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport's Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested for emergency landing.

As soon as the information arrived ATC gave clearance to the pilot of AI 233 for emergency landing.

Meanwhile, all grounds staff were alerted and measured were taken for emergency landing.

Around 3 pm, the flight landed safely and all the passengers were evacuated.

Till last news came in, engineers are still trying to fix the engine while passengers are waiting at the airport lounge.
