Administrative building in Alipurduar to be called 'Dooars Kanya'

Kolkata: After Uttar Kanya, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee named the new administrative building in the newly formed district Alipurduar as "Dooars Kanya".
Sources in the state Secretariat confirmed that the newly constructed state-of-the-art Collectorate building that will also house the office of the district will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister. If everything goes as planned, it will be inaugurated on January 9.
It was in June 2014 when Alipurduar was carved out of Jalpaiguri as the 20th district of the state.
Soon after formation of the new district, the state government has taken several steps in developing necessary infrastructure in Alipurduar including the construction of the Collectorate building.
It may be recalled that it was only after the change of guard in the state, the Mamata Banerjee government had taken decisive steps to set up an administrative building for the benefits of the people of North Bengal.
As a result, "Uttar Kanya" was constructed and it helped in fast execution of work for an overall development of North Bengal.
Similarly, after completion of the construction of the Collectorate building in Alipurduar by the state Public Works Department (PWD), the Chief Minister has named it as "Dooars Kanya".
There are mainly four blocks in the building and each of the blocks is six-storeyed. There is a central block with two other blocks which will be called as Eastern and Western blocks respectively.
Another block will come up in front of all the three blocks. There are conference halls in each of the blocks and all necessary facilities have been made been available for the employees in the building so that they do not face any inconvenience.
"It is a state-of-the-art building and there is sufficient space for parking and at the same time there is an open area in front of it that has been beautified by carrying out landscaping," an official said.
It may be mentioned that in May there was a review meeting at Nabanna to take a stock of the progress work of the building.
It was learnt that the concerned officials were directed to take all necessary steps to expedite the work. The officials had taken all the necessary steps and completed the construction of the building in the past few months.
Now, the officials are making preparations for the inauguration of the newly constructed building.
