Acid pushed in child's eye: Cops initiate case

Kolkata: The Sonarpur police station has initiated a case on the basis of a complaint of one Joyanto Chakraborty, whose six-month-old girl child is presently admitted at National Medical College Hospital. The complainant's brother had allegedly administered acid through injection in the child's left eye following a family dispute at their residence at Surya Sen Nagar in Sonarpur. The accused is absconding.
Bimalendu Saha, deputy superintendent of the hospital said that the little girl has completely lost the sight of her left eye.
"The infection spread to her right eye and chances of having sight in this eye is also lukewarm," Saha said.
Police sources informed that the Joyanto's mother Sabitri Chakraborty had earlier lodged a complaint over family dispute and fight and Joyanto was also arrested.
"We are investigating the allegations made by Joyanto. A case has been initiated under various sections including non bailable ones against the accused," an officer of Sonarpur police station said.
