Abhishek takes dig at BJP over 'fake news' on Panchayat members

Kolkata: Trinamool Youth Congress president Abhishek Banerjee lashed out at BJP for circulating fake news over the induction of some of the Panchayat members of Trinamool Congress to their party fold. "It is a party that survives on giving false information," he said, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

It may be mentioned that BJP leader Mukul Roy has claimed on Wednesday that members of Champadanga Gram Panchayat and Talpur Gram Panchayat in Hooghly have joined BJP.

Refuting Roy's claim, Banerjee presented the members whom BJP had claimed to have joined the saffron party and said: "Spreading such false information among people has become a habit of BJP."

He said Panchayat members like Archana Pal, Rupali Chang, Sanjoy Biswas, Dipali Saha, Bulu Barui, Madhuri Maity and Belal Hossain Mondol had never joined BJP and so the question of their coming back to Trinamool does not arise.

"By giving false information Roy is actually trying to keep the bosses at Delhi in good humour," Banerjee said. He maintained that many councillors in North 24-Parganas who have joined BJP are keeping in constant touch with Trinamool and they will come back to the party soon.

Meanwhile, at Balurghat in South Dinajpur, a Panchayat pradhan of Balurghat block who recently joined BJP from Trinamool, came back to her old party on Wednesday. The newly appointed district Trinamool chief Arpita Ghosh welcomed Mousumi Roy, pradhan of Boaldar Gram Panchayat, back to the party fold and later handed over the party flag to her.
