80-yr-old's body found hanging from cornice

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of an 80-year-old woman whose body was found hanging from the cornice, outside the balcony at her residence in Dumdum's Nagerbazar area early morning on Saturday.
The local residents found the victim; identified as Nilanjana Dutta, hanging from the cornice of Nilachal Apartment with a piece of cloth. Locals alleged that she might have been murdered and later her body must have been hung from outside the balcony situated on the third floor of the building.
The incident triggered tension among the local residents. They alleged that the victim might have been killed by her son and his wife. They alleged that it was not possible for the woman to commit suicide in this manner. They also alleged that the elderly woman might have been murdered for money.
After recovering the body, the cops sent it to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. According to the police, a suicide note was recovered from the spot which aroused suspicion as the victim could not write properly since her hands shook badly.
Police are not ruling out the possibility that someone else has written the suicide note before her death.
Cops have started a detailed probe in this regard. They have detained the victim's son and daughter-in-law. The deceased's son claimed during the interrogation that their maid saw his mother in the morning and that it was a suicide as she had been suffering from mental depression. The locals, however, told the cops that the elderly woman chatted normally with a few of her neighbours very recently and her behaviour was also quite normal. The police are probing all possible angles and are now waiting for the post-mortem report.
