An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted while she was returning from her school on Friday morning. The crime was committed at the ground floor of an under-construction building on Mominpore Road. According to the complaint lodged by the girl's mother with the Ekbalopore police station, her daughter was returning from Mirza Galib Urdu School for girls at Dent Mission Road at around 10 am on Friday when she was forcibly carried to the under-construction building that was on the way and an unknown person sexually assaulted her.
The girl, however, did not inform the matter to the family but in the evening she complained of severe pain in her genitals and when enquired, she narrated the entire story. The victim is a resident of Mominpore Road. We have initiated a case of sexual assault under 376(2) (i) of IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act. The preliminary medical examination of the girl has also been done," Syed Waquar Raza, deputy
commissioner (port division) said. The police are questioning the labourers who were at work at the construction site for further leads in the case. "Efforts are on to identify the unknown accused person," an officer at Ekbalpore police station said.
