73-year-old inmate of Alipore Correctional Home dies

Kolkata: A 73-year-old prisoner from Alipore Correctional Home died in a city hospital on Thursday morning after he was shifted there on Wednesday night due to some age related ailments.

The prisoner, Budhhu Saha complained of serious illness on Wednesday night when he was taken to the hospital for treatment. He later died in the hospital.

The family members of the victim, however, alleged that they were not informed properly when Saha was taken to the hospital.

They also raised questions over the death of the victim. It was learnt that Saha, a resident of Madhaipur area in Old Malda was arrested on the charges of sexual assault on a minor girl. Her family members failed to engage a lawyer due to financial constraints. He was found guilty and undergoing punishment at Malda District correctional Home. He was later shifted to Alipore Correctional Home.

His family members alleged that one of his relative visited him at the correctional home on 16 March and he was fine. The family also alleged that they were not informed on how he had died.
