70-year-old woman's body found in her room

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 70-year-old woman whose body was found in her room on Friday morning in Nadia.
Police said that the victim, Binapani Biswas, used to reside in the ground floor room of her house situated at Hanskhali in Nadia.
Her son and daughter-in-law also stay in the same building. On Friday morning they went to her room and found the door open.
They entered the room to find the woman lying in a pool of blood on her bed. Valuables were found strewn all over the floor of the room.
Local people rushed to the spot hearing their cries for help and the police were informed. They staged an agitation protesting against the incident and demanded proper probe into it. They even restricted the police from sending the body for an autopsy. The situation came under control after senior police intervened and assured that all necessary steps will be taken to arrest the accused as early as possible.
The police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder, but suspect that intention to loot valuables from the room of the woman led to the crime.
The police took sniffer dogs to the spot. Preliminary investigation revealed that some jewellery and cash went missing from the victim's room.
The police collected samples from the spot and are trying to ascertain identities of the accused. Police suspect that someone known to the family is behind the incident as it would not be possible for anyone to enter the house so easily without making much noise.
The police have questioned some of the people who often used to visit the house.
Preliminary investigation has also revealed that the accused did a recce of the place at least twice before conducting the operation. Moreover, they were well aware where the woman had kept the jewellery in her room. They had killed the woman as she had attempted to stop them and may have recognised them.
