7-yr-old murdered by neighbour

Kolkata: A seven-year-old boy was murdered in broad daylight at Andal in Durgapur by his neighbour who was in an inebriated condition.

The incident took place on Monday morning and the accused had even injured the victim's grandmother when she tried to intervene in order to save her grandson. She has been admitted to hospital. Locals handed over the accused to the police.

A police officer said that the accused, Binod Bauri, was in an inebriated state. He found seven-year-old Prabhat Guru playing just outside his house. All of a sudden, Binod started shouting at the boy. The accused rushed inside his house and came out with a sharp weapon. The victim didn't get the time to realise that Binod was approaching him with an intention to kill him. So the boy didn't move from the place where he was playing for almost an hour.

The accused slit the victim's throat before anyone could understand what was going on. The victim's grandmother, Basanti, was standing outside their house and she went ahead to save her grandson.

Binod attacked the woman when she approached him. Locals gathered around hearing her cries for help and found the accused trying to flee with the sharp weapon in his hand.

They chased him down and caught the accused. He was later handed over to the police.

The cops took both Prabhat and Basanti to hospital. The seven-year-old boy was declared brought dead and his grandmother was admitted to hospital. The woman is fighting for her life. Police are yet to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder but suspect that old rivalry between the accused and the victim's parents night have led to the crime.
