7 years of TMC govt: CM thanks 'Ma, Maati, Manush'

Kolkata: It was on May 13, 2011, that the Trinamool Congress had put an end to 34 years of the Left Front regime in Bengal.
Remembering those who had offered Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee their full support, she tweeted: "Seven years ago on this day people in Bengal had give responsibility to Trinamool government to rule the state putting an end to Left rule. I offer my pranam and sallam to Ma, Maati and Manush."
It was on January 1, 1998 that Mamata Banerjee set up the Trinamool Congress and began her lone battle against the misrule of the Left Front government. She had realised that the Congress had become the CPI(M)'s B team and would never launch any movement to dislodge the party.
Banerjee was physically assaulted and thrown out of Writers' Buildings after she had gone there demanding arrest of the person who had allegedly raped a deaf and mute girl.
Her movement against the CPI(M) gathered momentum when the Left Front government opened fire killing those farmers who had refused to give land in Nandigram.
In Singur, the state government acquired farm land to set up an automobile factory.
The sustained movement had ultimately sealed the fate of the Left in Bengal. In 2016, the Trinamool Congress won the Assembly polls winning 211 out of 294 seats and came to power.
