7 new youth hostels to come up in Bengal

Kolkata: The state Youth Services and Sports department has set a target of building seven new youth hostels including two at Ayodhya Hills and Jaichandi Hills in Purulia by March 2018.
It may be mentioned that the footfall of visitors has gone up with steps taken by the Mamata Banerjee government to improve the basic infrastructure of the district. Moreover, the number of youth visiting the place for trekking and adventure sports has also gone up. As a result, the demand for better accommodation has also gone up.
So, the state Youth Services and Sports department has taken an initiative to build two youth hostels in Purulia as early as possible. One will be near Ayodhya Hills and the other one near Jaichandi Hills.
Besides those at Ayodhya Hills and Jaichani Hills in Purulia, two more at Jalpaiguri and Bishnupur are ready to become operational. The youth hostel in Jalpaiguri is coming up at Metali.
These four youth hostels will be made operational soon, while a total of seven including one each at Cooch Behar, Nabadwip, Malda and Durgapur will also be ready by the end of March 2018.
It may be mentioned that at present, a total of 19 youth hostels are functional in different parts of the state while the state government has a plan to set up a total of 40 youth hostels in the state. The construction work of the 21 other youth hostels at different places including Balurghat, Jayanti and Gajoldoba has also begun.
An official of the state Youth Services and Sports department said that the youth hostels at Cooch Behar, Nabadwip, Malda and Durgapur are also almost ready and the remaining work will be completed soon. The civil part of the work is complete, with only the furnishing and electric wiring being left.
It may be mentioned that in each of the youth hostels, there will be accommodation of at least 100 people. So with setting up of the youth hostels in the districts, youth will not face any further problem in getting a better accommodation when they visit any part of the state for excursion or activities like trekking and adventure sports.
