7 killed, some injured in 5 separate road accidents

Kolkata: Seven persons were killed while some others have been injured in five separate road accidents in the state.
The first incident took place at Bhurkunda More area of Sagardighi in Murshidabad on Sunday morning when four youth were riding two motorcycles. The incident took place on the National Highway 34. While accelerating, the bikers lost control and hit a divider. The four persons received injuries on various parts of their bodies with some of them having critical injuries.
It was learnt that none of the bikers were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
One of the injured bikers was declared brought dead by the doctors after being taken to a near hospital. Three others were undergoing treatment at the hospital. According to the doctors, some of them are stated to be in critical condition. After being informed, police rushed to the spot and seized the vehicles. The local residents told the police that the accident occurred as the bikers were riding their vehicles in high speed. Police are yet to divulge the identity of the victims.
In another incident, Apala Das, who is said to be a Trinamool Congress leader in Howrah died after being mowed down by a speeding matador. The victim was crossing the road near Bataitala Bazar area when a speeding matador hit the victim.
As the matador was at top speed, the driver could not control the vehicle when she came in its way. After hitting the woman, the matador rammed into a roadside shop. Police seized the vehicle and are conducting raids to nab the driver.
In another incident, two bikers were killed when the bike they were riding was hit by a speeding trekker. The local residents staged demonstration on the road with the dead bodies. Around 7 passers-by received injuries in the accident.
Scuffle broke out between the local people and the police when the latter reached the spot to bring the situation under control. The incident also led to traffic jam on the Contai-Midnapore state highway.
Two other accidents took place at Durgapur which claimed three lives. Ladu Odao and Manju Tamang who were riding on a motorcycle died after a truck hit the bike. They were declared brought dead after being taken to a nearby hospital.
In a separate incident, a vagabond youth, whose identity is yet to be confirmed by the police, was killed after being crushed by a speeding truck near Tildanga More.
