7 arrested in night club raids, cops up in arms to check flesh trade

Kolkata: The Anti-Rowdy Squad of Kolkata Police's detective department arrested seven persons during raids conducted at several night clubs in the city on Saturday night. According to the police, since the past few months, they were getting tipped off about a few night clubs and bars that were running beyond their stipulated time. Also, women were being hired to perform at these bars.

Based on the information, on Saturday night, the police raided five night clubs and singing bars in the city.

Out of five, three bars were found to be running illegally in New Market, Anandapur and Pragati Maidan. A few plain-clothed police officials saw women were dancing at these bars.

Police officers remained at the nightclubs for sometime to know for how long these places remained opened flouting the permissible time limit.

A team from the Anti-Rowdy Squad raided the bars and forced the authority to shut these bars. Also, seven persons were arrested in this connection.

Sources informed since the past few months, police teams were keeping strict vigil on night clubs and bars to stop illegal activities in these places. Earlier, it was found that, a huge number of people involved in drug peddling, targeted such bars and clubs for prospective buyers and carrying out flesh trade.

To put a check on these illegal activities, the police started keeping an eye on these bars.

Senior police officials informed that such raids will continue throughout the year to maintain law and order situation and check criminal activities.
