65-year-old run over by speeding bus at Bangur

Kolkata: Two days after the Chingrighata incident in which two college students were run over by a bus, a similar incident took place at Bangur in the North Kolkata on Monday where a 65-year-old woman was crushed to death by a speeding bus.
Police said the victim, Usha Das (65), a resident of New Town Adarshapally was going to Bangur where she used to work as a cook.
She was crossing the VIP road at around 8 am when the private bus of route number 44 hit her. As she fell on the road, the vehicle went over her body.
She was bleeding profusely when locals rescued her and rushed to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital where the doctors pronounced her brought dead. The incident led to chaos in the area as locals beat up the bus driver. An irate mob also pelted stones on the bus after the accident. After being informed, police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. Some of the locals also staged a demonstration in the area protesting against the reckless driving of vehicles.
Locals informed the police that the bus was running at a high speed as a result of which the driver could not control the vehicle.
