63-year-old held for duping businessman in Bhadreswar

Kolkata: A 63-year-old man was arrested from Bhadreswar in Hooghly on charges of cheating a businessman from the city, by posing himself as a senior official of an undertaking company of Mizoram government.
Acting on a tip-off, a team comprising Kolkata Police personnel, conducted a raid near the house of the accused, Bikash Chandra Sarkar at Bhadreswar and arrested him.
A few days ago, Brij Mohan Katual, General Manager (marketing) of Mehak Foods Limited, a company which manufactures skimmed milk powder in a factory off Mahatma Gandhi Road at Posta, had lodged the complaint with police.
The accused had contacted the complainant over phone, posing as the purchasing officer of Mizoram Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Limited, which is an undertaking company of Mizoram government.
The accused had assured help to the complainant to bag a tender to supply around 205 metric tonnes of skimmed milk powder in 25 kg paper bags. As the value of the tender is Rs 4.62 crore excluding Goods and Services Tax (GST), the complainant couldn't restrict himself from paying Rs 2.39 lakh to the accused.
In a bid to gain confidence of the complainant, the accused had created some fake e-mail ids and sent him mails.
Brij Mohan lodged a complaint as the accused fled after taking the money. Police initiated a search and arrested Bikash from Bhadreswar. He was remanded to police custody till December 15. He had been arrested earlier as well on similar charges.
