60-yr-old found dead at Salt Lake residence

Kolkata: A 60-year-old retired engineer was found dead with injury marks all over his body inside his house at BD Block in Salt lake on Thursday.
Police said his throat was slit and there were deep injury marks on his belly and private parts.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Avijit Nath Chowdhury, used to stay all alone in the house.
He used to stay on the first floor of his two-storeyed house and rented out a portion of the ground floor to a private company.
Some employees of the private company had seen Avijit for the last time on Wednesday evening.
On Thursday afternoon, they realised that the elderly person had not come to the ground floor even for once since morning.
As it was quite unusual, they went near the door that has to be opened to use the staircase to go to the first floor.
Some blood stain was noticed outside the door and the victim's daughter and son were informed immediately.
Both the daughter and the son stay in some other parts of the city. They rushed to the spot and tried to open the door. But it was not possible for them and they informed the police.
Policemen from Bidhannagar North Police Station rushed to the spot and break open the gate to find Avijit's body close to the stair case on the first floor.
After preliminary inspection of the body, the police are quite confirmed that he was stabbed with a sharp knife. His throat was slit and there were also injury marks on his private parts and belly.
The body has been sent for an autopsy and the police are waiting for its preliminary report which the investigating officers are considering quite crucial to ascertain certain facts to probe into the crime.
Police suspect that the victim jostled with the accused and it resulted to the injuries on his body.
The investigating officers are also considering involvement of someone close to the victim behind the crime.
Sources said the police questioned the victim's son and son-in-law in this connection.
