5 workers injured after portion of crane falls on them

Kolkata: Five workers who were working at an under-construction convention centre situated behind Hidco Bhavan in New Town were injured after a portion of a crane fell on them.

The incident occurred at around 11 am on Sunday when a part of the crane and few iron plates fell on them. All of them were rushed to a nearby private hospital.

The incident triggered tension among the other workers who were also working at the construction site. Some of them staged demonstration demanding adequate security arrangements at the construction site so that such incidents may be checked.

Some of the workers who were there at the construction site said that an iron plate which was hanging from the crane suddenly crashed down in which five labourers received injuries. Two persons are stated to be critical.

The workers who have been working at the construction site have alleged that they were left to work at a place where there were no adequate security arrangements for them.

The construction company which was carrying out the project, however, denied the allegation and said that the workers do not follow the safety guidelines properly.
