5 km metalled road comes up after 35 yrs in Tarakeshwar

Kolkata: It has taken 35 years for a 5 km metalled road to be constructed in Tarakeshwar. The road connecting Baliguri Chowmatha with Joynagar village in Tarakeshwar was opened on Sunday and to celebrate the occasion, local people organised a feast. They thanked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Hooghly Zilla Parishad for constructing the road.
The road under Baliguri No 1 Gram Panchayat was a CPI-M den since the Left Front came to power in 1977. CPI-M MP Anil Basu's words were law in the area. Both the Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat were under his control and despite repeated requests by the local people to construct a metalled road, no steps had been taken.
The 5 km concrete road has brought a new lease of life to the people of 5-7 villages.
The road connects a high school and a primary school, along with the Tarakeshwar Railway Station and the local market.
