5 killed after truck overturns on their car after collision

Kolkata: Five persons were killed when a car they were travelling in was crushed under a truck which turned turtle after colliding head on with another on Arambag-Kolkata state highway near Mayapur.
The drivers of the trucks fled the spot immediately after the accident. Police have seized both the trucks. Police said that the four persons including the driver of the Maruti van were taking a patient, a resident of Purba Keshabpur to Arambag Sub-divisional hospital when the accident took place.
When the car was trying to overtake a loaded truck it overturned on the vehicle after hitting a truck coming from the opposite direction. The car was completely crushed under the overturned truck. All the five persons were killed on the spot.
After being informed, the police reached the spot and removed the mangled bodies of the victims from the ill-fated vehicle. The incident led to a huge traffic jam on the road. A crane was brought in to remove the overturned truck.
The deceased have been identified as Shah Saker Ali, Seikh Rahim Ali, Seikh Tajmahammad, Midda Gulam Mortaja and Seikh Daku. According to the police the other four persons were taking Daku to the hospital as he fell ill. The local residents told the police that truck which overturned was running at a high speed as a result which the driver lost control over the vehicle. During that moment, the car was trying to overtake the truck.
As a result of the accident, vehicles remained stranded on the road for nearly two hours. Normalcy was restored after the police removed the overturned truck. The bodies were sent to the hospital for the post-mortem examination. Police are conducting raids to nab the drivers of the trucks.
In a separate accident, traffic movement was disrupted after a Howrah-bound container hit a divider and overturned on the Vidyasagar setu. Two persons were injured in the incident and were taken to a nearby hospital.
