5 bikers killed, one injured in 3 separate road accidents

Kolkata: Five bikers have been killed and one injured in three separate road accidents since Saturday night.
The first incident took place near Ghatakpur under Bhangar police station in South 24-Parganas on late Saturday night when the victim, Shariful Kha was returning home from his work place at around 11.30 pm on his motorcycle. A private car coming from the opposite direction hit him.
He was pronounced brought dead by the doctors after being taken to a nearby hospital. Bappa Mollah, who was riding pillion also received injuries in the accident.
According to police, the deceased was a resident of Chandipur village under Bhangar police station area. Preliminary investigation suggests the bikers were trying to overtake a vehicle when the accident occurred. As the bike was at a high speed, the victim could not control it when a car suddenly came from the opposite direction. It was learnt that the car driver applied sudden brake but the accident could not be averted. The bike collided head on with the car injuring the victims. Police in the course of investigation came to know that none of the bikers was wearing helmets. Kha received severe injuries on various parts of his body. Locals rescued the victims and rushed them to a nearby hospital. Mollah was later shifted to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
The car driver fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident. Police are also investigating if the bikers were in a drunken state when the accident took place.
In another tragic incident, three bikers were crushed to death after they came under the wheels of a speeding truck at Guria More area near Nanda Kumar in West Midnapore on Sunday afternoon. The victims have been identified as Pradip Kandar (26), Subhodip Kandar (24) and Lalu Mondal (28). They were going to Tengrakhali from Nimtouri when a loaded truck hit them. The bikers were riding at a top speed as a result of which they could not control the bike while taking a sharp turn. The truck driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle in the area. Police have seized the vehicle. The incident caused traffic congestion in the area.
The other accident took place on National Highway 117 in Dostipur area under Falta police station in the same district. The victim, identified as Bhaskar Kathal was riding his bike along with the NH 117 on early Sunday morning when a pickup van hit him. According to police, the victim was going to Dainmond Harbour. After being informed, police reached the spot and rescued the injured victim. He was rushed to a hospital in Diamond Harbour where he succumbed to his injuries. Police have started a raid to nab the driver of the pickup van who fled the spot after the accident.
