Kolkata: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Sunday night seized 45 kg of ganja and arrested a person from Odisha's Khurda district.
"The Bhubaneshwar team of NCB conducted a raid on the basis of a source information at the residential premises of one Kishore Chand Sunidhi at Patia in Khurda district and seized 45 kg of ganja. The team also arrested one Mohammad Wasim Akram," a senior NCB official said. Akram, a resident of Bhadrak had sourced the stuff from Atagarh in Cuttack and was supposed to send the consignment to Kolkata. NCB sources said the seized contraband is valued around Rs 5 lakh in the market. The accused along with the seized contraband was produced at Bhubaneswar Court on Monday.
It may be mentioned that in July last year NCB had seized 314 kg ganja (marijuana) from a pick-up truck and arrested two persons in connection with the case. The market value of the consignment seized from Taratala Road in south Kolkata was around Rs 35 lakh. Hariprasad Majumdar and Milan Ghosh were the two persons arrested for transporting the narcotic substance.
