41-yr-old wearing earphones fails to hear train coming, gets run over

Kolkata: A person while returning home from night duty was run over by a train at Bhadreswar railway station in Hooghly while crossing the railway tracks on Sunday morning. The victim, identified as Dipak Behera (41), was listening to something in his cell phone with his ear plugs on.
Behera worked as a group D staff in an IT company at Salt Lake Sector V. He took the first morning train from Howrah and detrained at Bhadreswar at around 5.30 am.
He decided to cross the railway tracks without using the footbridge of the station. As his earphones were on, he failed to hear the sound of a train that was passing along the tracks on which he was walking. He was knocked down and the GRP along with some other passengers rushed him to Chandannagore Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a little later.
The attending doctors said that the earphone had stuck into his ears in such a manner that it was extremely difficult for them to bring it out.
In the last few years there has been a number of deaths with persons using earphones while crossing railway tracks. In January 2016, a teenaged girl, Payel Pradhan, was run over at Phuleshwar railway station.
