4 killed in separate road mishaps

Four persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Nadia.

The first accident took place late Saturday night when two minor bikers were killed after being hit by a speeding truck near Budhhapark area of Kalyani on the Kalyani-Barrackpore Expressway. According to the police, the accident took place at around 2 am. The victims have been identified as Apurba Haldar and Suraj Sonkar. Apurba was a resident of Rathtala area of Kalyani while Suraj was a resident of Kachrapara.

Police said that the two victims were riding motorcycle along the Kalyani Expressway when a loaded truck lost control and hit the motorcycle.

Police said that both the victims were minors.

After hearing about the accident, the local residents rushed to the spot and found the victims lying in a pool of blood. They rushed the victims to Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital in Kalyani where they were pronounced brought dead.

The driver of the vehicle fled the spot leaving the truck at the site of the accident. As a result of the accident, the vehicle plying through the area remained stranded for quite some time.

The police reached the spot and seized the vehicle. They also conducted raids to nab the driver of the vehicle.

Police are investigating if the two minors were in an inebriated state at the time of the accident. It may be mentioned that local youth often booze in the local bars and ride on their motorcycles on the Kalyani Expressway late in the night which often causes fatal accidents.

In another incident two persons were killed when a loaded truck mowed them down at Shimurali in Nadia on Sunday morning. Police are yet to ascertain the identities of the victims. Police are yet to arrest the driver of the truck who fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident.
