4 killed, 8 injured in 4 separate mishaps

Kolkata: Four persons were killed and eight others have been injured in four separate road accidents that took place in South Bengal since Monday night.
The first incident took place at the Patharpratima area of South 24-Parganas on late Monday night when two bikers were killed after ramming into a matador from behind. The victims have been identified as Sukumar Haldar and Samir Haldar.
Police said that some people were returning home when they rammed into a vehicle from behind which was parked on the roadside. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that they were riding the bike at a high speed.
While taking a turn at Patharpratima Bazaar, they lost control over the bike and hit a parked vehicle from behind. The victims suffered serious head injuries in the accident. Local residents rescued the injured victims and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
Eight persons were injured, some of them critically, in another incident that took place in South 24-Parganas' Diamond Harbour on Monday night. Police said that the victims were returning in a Tata Magic van from a picnic, when the vehicle overturned.
The incident took place near the Kella area of Diamond Harbour. Police said that the vehicle was running at a high speed when the driver lost control and it overturned on the road.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the driver was in a drunken state when the accident took place.
Local residents rushed the injured victims to Diamond Harbour District Hospital. Three of them have been shifted to a city hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Two more road accidents took place in Howrah's Uluberia, claiming two lives. One person, who was driving a Maruti van, died after the vehicle hit an electrical pole near the Manasatala area. The incident took place early on Tuesday morning. Police are yet to ascertain the identity of the victim.
In other incident, a youth, who was riding on his motorcycle without a helmet, died after he hit a stationery truck near the Nimtala area. He was going to Uluberia from Amta.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning. He was declared brought dead after being taken to a hospital. The body has been sent for autopsy.
