4 killed, 1 injured in mishap at Dhulagarh

Kolkata: Four persons died and another was seriously injured after a car rammed into the back of a container carrier on the wee hours of Wednesday at Dhulagarh on National Highway 6. The injured person has been admitted at NRS Medical College and Hospital with serious injuries.

According to sources, early on Wednesday morning some locals heard a sound of collision. When they rushed to the source of the sound, they saw that a car bearing registration number of Odisha had rammed behind a container carrier.

The police were informed immediately. Locals tried to rescue the people inside the car but failed to break the car free from under the container carrier.

After a few minutes, police arrived at the spot and arranged a wrecker van to pull out the car. After the car was pulled out, police rescued five persons from the badly damaged car and rushed them to a local hospital, where four of them were declared brought dead.

The deceased persons have been identified as Manoj Kumar Mohanty, Dilip Kumar Nayek, P Tejeswar Rao and Digbijay Das of Bhubaneswar in Odisha. The injured person identified as Krishna Rao is also from the same location. He was shifted to NRS Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

It is suspected that the driver of the car might have fallen asleep while driving. Sources informed that after rescuing the five persons, police also found a bottle of alcohol and a few glasses from the car. Immediate after the accident, the driver of the container carrier fled the spot.
