4 arrested over kidney racket, 315 gm of heroin also recovered

Kolkata:The police have arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in a kidney racket from the city.
The accused have been idientified as Asfaq Ahmed, Teherun Islam, Baidyanath Burman and Jyotsna Burman. They were arrested from Anandapur area. Among the accused, three are residents of Raigunge in North Dinajpur, while one is from Kidderpore.
It has been learnt that a private hospital in the city is under police scanner.
Asfaq, Teherun, Baidyanath and Jyotsna were coming to the city on November 24 in Howrah-Rajendranagar Patna Express. Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted them along with 315 gm of heroin, when they were on a bus headed towards Anandanagar from Howrah.
The police have recovered several prescriptions and medical documents from them.
Baidynath and Jyotsna are from Raigunge and are said to be married to each other.
Teherun is a resident of Hemtabad, North Dinajpur. The accused have been remanded to police custody till December 6 after being produced before a city court on November 25.
The market value of the recovered heroin is said to be around Rs 3 lakh. Some fake identity cards were also obtained from the accused.
During the interrogation, the accused told the police that Teherun, along with the couple, were going to a private hospital to sell kidneys and they were supposed to receive around
Rs 3-4 lakh, per kidney.
The police also found out that the market price of a kidney is approximately Rs 10 lakh but the accused used to receive Rs 4 lakh. Police suspect that Asfak, who is a broker, used to get the remainder amount.
