3rd riverside heritage bungalow of Sahibganj restored to its' pristine glory

Kolkata: As part of the beautification exercise, the Eastern Railway has completed the third river side heritage bungalow of Sahibganj.

"The bungalow was constructed in Gothic style with majestic pillars, beautiful red oxide flooring, wide varandas, drawing rooms, slanted tiled roofs looks like a luxurious noblemen's country seat, a dream river side duplex house," said a senior official of Eastern Railway.

There are five beautiful heritage bungalows at Sahibganj which needed immediate renovation. During colonial era many famous stalwarts of the then East Indian Railway had stayed in those bungalows.

"Divisional team, took the challenge of speedy rejuvenation of heritage bungalows at Sahibganj, and in two weeks, resurrected two of the heritage bungalow after intensive repairs," he further pointed out.

These bungalows with their thick brick walls, slanted roof, arches, chimney and fire place, high ceilings, large open space and riverside view are testimony of elegance, comfort and old world charm of heritage architecture.

Sahibgunj, also known as Sahebganj, was the largest railway township after Howrah.

"As a part of Eastern Railway's initiatives to preserve its rich heritage, Malda Division has launched special drive to restore heritage buildings of the division and the second heritage riverside bungalow of Sahibganj was renovated, after renovation of the first one in the previous month (August, 2019)," reads recent post on the Facebook page of Sahibganj.
