3 on bike killed after being mowed down by car

Kolkata: Three persons including a five-year-old girl were killed after they were crushed under the wheels of a speeding car in New Town on Thursday afternoon. The incident triggered tension in the area.
The accident took place near Akansha More when the victims who were riding on a motorcycle fell on the road after hitting a divider when a cow suddenly came in front of them. The vehicle that was coming from behind mowed them down. The victims were declared brought dead after they were taken to the hospital.
Prabhat Chakraborty one of the victims and a resident of Kadapara area of Beliaghata were returning home along with his daughter Dipsikha Chakraborty. Prabhat's friend Goutam Patra was also riding pillion when the bike hit the divider. Prabhat and Goutam were wearing helmets while the former's daughter was not wearing one at the time of the accident. Police said that Prabhat, a liftman by profession, was returning home from New Town when a cow suddenly came in front of the speeding motorcycle. Prabhat, who was riding the bike, lost control and hit the divider. The local residents and police rushed the injured victims to Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital where the injured victims were declared brought dead. Dipsikha, a student of Class I had been living with her father. Her mother lives separately as a case of divorce is going on between them.
The accused driver had fled from the spot along with his vehicle immediately after the incident. The local residents told the police that as the bike was at a high speed, the biker could not control the vehicle when a cow suddenly came in front of it. The bike hit the divider and fell on the road when a speeding vehicle coming from behind ran them over.
The local residents staged a protest in the area after the accident alleging that the vehicles are plied at a high speed as a result of which accidents often take place in the area. Police are conducting raids to nab the driver. The investigators are also going though the CCTV footages to identify the errant vehicle.
