3 members of family die in accident

Kolkata: Three members of a family who went to Arunachal Pradesh for a trip from Kolkata died after meeting with a road accident at Tawang. Four others received injuries.
Among the deceased, two have been identified by the police so far. They were Batukanta Bhattacharya and Lipi Bhattacharya. It was learnt that a team of seven members from the city was travelling to Tawang from Bomdila. They were travelling in a Tata Sumo. On the way, the car fell few feet down from the road and was badly damaged. Immediately after the incident, Defence personnel and GREF jawans rushed to the spot and admitted the victims to an Army hospital. The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, two persons were killed in two separate road accidents in the state including one that took place in the city. A person, identified as Sambhu, died after being hit by a speeding mini bus of Harinavi-Howrah route. According to the police, the victim was a resident of Baruipur in South 24-Parganas and used to work as a security guard in an apartment in Sonarpur in South 24-Parganas. The accident took place near Hindustan More at around 7 am on Sunday. The bus driver fled the spot leaving the bus at the accident site. After being informed, the police reached the spot and recovered the body of the victim. They sent the body for post mortem. Raids are being conducted to nab the bus driver. The locals told the police that the driver was overspeeding the bus when the accident took place.
The other incident occurred at Hooghly's Basberia where Bisawjit Malakar (55), a toll tax employee at Iswar Gupt Setu died after being knocked down by a milk van. Police have seized the vehicle but the driver fled after the incident.
In another incident, around seven pilgrims who were going to Gaya from Puri were injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned on National Highway 2 near Asansol late on Saturday morning. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.
