3 killed, 1 injured in separate accidents

Kolkata: Three persons were killed and a Madhyamik examinee sustained serious injuries in two separate road accidents in the state since Monday night.
The first incident took place on National Highway 31 in Jalpaiguri on Monday night when a couple was returning home on a motorcycle along with their son who is a Madhyamik candidate this year.
The couple died on spot after the bike they were riding got hit by a truck. Their son was immediately rushed to Jalpaiguri Multi superspecaility hospital on the Monday night.
Police said Amal Basu was riding his motorcycle with his wife Alo Basu and son Suryadeep as pillion riders.
Suryadeep had undergone a surgery in the hospital and also appeared for the Life Science examination from the hospital.
The woman died on spot while the husband succumbed to his injuries in North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday morning. Police said the accident took place when the truck was taking a sharp bend on National Highway 31.
Police have seized the truck while the driver is yet to be arrested.
The other accident took place at Canning in South 24-Parganas on Tuesday morning when a biker was killed after being hit by a truck.
The victim Sajahan Mondal (18), a resident of Basirhat in North 24-Parganas was returning home from a relative's house at Canning.
When he was crossing the Matla Bridge, a speeding truck hit him.
The victim was lying on the bridge for a few minutes before locals rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Police reached the spot and recovered the bike which was completely damaged in the accident.
According to police, the victim was not wearing helmet when the accident took place. Police also recovered victim's mobile phone which was lying on the road.
