3-day 'Great Indian Dessert Festival' kicks off today beside Mishti Hub

Kolkata: Before savouring cakes and pastries during the Christmas holidays, Kolkatans have another chance to pamper their taste buds with a series of desserts. Thanks to the three-day "Great Indian Dessert Festival" that kicks off Friday beside the Misti Hub in New Town.

The festival is a stride on the part of West Bengal Housing & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) to enhance the 'sweetness' of the area around Misti Hub in New Town that

came up in June.

The festival is being organised by a private company and HIDCO is acting as the venue partner with the site of motorcycle stand behind Misti Hub being decked up for the same. There will be 16 stalls serving dessert varieties — like Fruit Custard, Caramel Custard and etc.

The organisers have promised to have a wide variety of custards and ice-creams that are special and popular across the country at the Festival. The festival will be held from 12 noon to 8 pm

till Sunday.

"It is a strategy for giving the people of our state a concept of 'Experiential Tourism' which is evolving fast across the world. People will visit Eco Park, Misti Hub near Gate Number 3 of the park and at the same time relish the popular desserts of the country," a senior

HIDCO official said.

The campaign for the festival was made on social media with likes and comments of appreciation flooding the posts related to the event. So, the organisers are hopeful of a good turnaround.

It may be mentioned that HIDCO has already made elaborate plans to spread the footprint of Misti Hub.

Plans are on to design a special prestige carry bag with the logo of Misti Hub for common branding.

This would be of cloth or jute and consists of three sizes — small, medium and large. There are also plans to introduce discount coupons for people to visit Eco Park on some selective days for those who would buy sweets from

Misti Hub. A review of the performance till October done by Hidco has garnered excellent response from the people visiting Misti Hub. All the shops at the Hub have done

brisk business.
