290 new posts for Santhali teachers

Kolkata: The state Cabinet on Monday approved creation of 290 new posts for Santhali teachers in 145 primary schools of Jhargram and West Midnapore.

"Our Cabinet has created two teaching posts in

each school. The move to create new posts for teachers will benefit the tribal population of these areas," said Transport minister Suvendu Adhikari after the Cabinet meeting at Nabanna.

Permanent Santhali teachers in schools where the language is taught as a medium of instruction has been the demand of Adibasi Socio-Educational and Cultural Association (ASECA) in Bengal.

Santhali as medium of instruction in the state-run schools of

Bengal was announced a few years ago.

The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has been conducting Class X board examination in Santhali using Ol Chiki scripts across several schools in the state.
