25-year-old Bagdogra soldier martyred in Naushera Sector

Darjeeling: Naik Subash Thapa was martyred in the Naushera Sector, Rajouri,

in Jammu on Saturday morning. Thapa hailed from Upper Bagdogra in the Darjeeling district.

Thapa from the 3/5 Gorkha Rifles was deployed with the 33 Rashtriya Rifles.

According to Army sources, he was hit in the Line of Control by a splinter in the wee hours of Saturday.

He was then rushed to the Command Hospital in Udhampur by helicopter.

However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

25-year-old Naik Subash Thapa had joined the Army eight years ago. He was a resident of Panighata Road, Bagdogar, Siliguri in the Darjeeling district.

His family includes his father Tek Bahadur Thapa, mother Padma Thapa and elder brother Pradeep Thapa. His mother is in a state of shock and has been admitted to the Army hospital in Bagdogra.

The mortal remains of the martyr are scheduled to arrive at Bagdogra Airport at 2:25 pm on Sunday by Indigo flight (6E 5033) from Delhi. With the news of his supreme sacrifice, a shadow of grief has descended on the locality where Thapa used to live. Local residents also held a candlelight vigil in the evening.
