23-year-old TV actress found hanging from ceiling

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a serial artiste whose body was found hanging from the ceiling inside her rented room at Regent Park area on Friday night.

Police have recovered a suicide note which makes the investigators believe that she might have committed suicide due to prolonged depression. Police added that the victim, Moumita Saha (23), was originally from Bandel in Hooghly. She came to the city with her dream to become an actress. She tried her luck in various TV serials but failed to get a major breakthrough which might have prompted her to take the extreme step.

She rented a room at Ashok Nagar Park area under Regent Park police station almost two years ago. Her friends failed to contact the victim since Friday afternoon as her cellphone went unanswered. Having found no other option, they called the landlord of the house and told him about the incident. Her parents also failed to get in touch with her over the phone since Friday afternoon despite repeated attempts.

Finally, the landlord broke open the main door of the room at around 9.40 pm on Friday and found the victim hanging from the ceiling fan. Police were called in and an investigation has begun.

A suicide note was also recovered from the room. Saha's body was later sent for postmortem.

The room was locked from inside when the incident took place. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that she might have committed suicide. The cops added that she used her dupatta to hang herself.

According to cops, she was depressed as she failed to play one of the key roles in a serial that could give her a breakthrough. She had been working in TV serials for nearly two-and-half-years. Police are investigating all possible angles into the incident. They are also scanning her Facebook account.
