21-year-old jilted lover kills self

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 21-year-old youth whose body was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his house on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at Bishnupur in South 24-Parganas.

The victim has been identified as Santanu Purkayeth. Police said the youth used to work in a nearby factory. The exact cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.

The family members of the victim told the police that he had been under mental stress for the past few days after his love affair had gone wrong.

The victim's parents told the investigating officers that he had developed a love relationship with a girl in the nearby locality few months ago.

As she refused to continue the relationship, the victim had gone into a depression.

After examining the call details of his phone, the police found that the victim sent a Whatsapp message to the girl hours before his death.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have committed suicide after being rejected. The police are yet to officially confirm the reason behind his death.

The family members on Saturday morning found the victim hanging from the ceiling fan inside his room and informed the matter to the police.

The body was later sent to a hospital for post-mortem. No suicide note has been recovered so far in this connection.

Police have examined the mobile phone of the victim which might provide some crucial leads to the investigating officers.

Police are probing as to what actually could have led to the deterioration in his relationship with the girl.

also told the police that the girl with whom he had proposed is a resident of Maheshtala.

Police may interrogate the girl in this connection. The cops have seized the mobile phone of the victim. It is also being probed if the girl had instigated the youth to kill himself.
