2 students washed away by high tide, search on

Two school-goers are feared drowned in river Hooghly while they were shooting for a documentary on Bengali play Abak Jalpan. The incident took place at Charsarhati in Nadia on Sunday evening.

Police said that six to seven students gathered on the river bank for the shooting. There were students of different schools from Chakdah and Kalyani. Some of them were amateur photographers. They used to upload different photographs and videos on the internet to earn money.

With a similar purpose, they were making a documentary on Sukumar Roy's play Abak Jalpan. When two youth were standing on the bank with cameras, four of their friends went down to the river to give a shot. Suddenly there was high tide and four of them were washed away. Local people and boatmen jumped into the river and managed to rescue two of the youth. But two of them are still missing.

Police went to the spot and detained three youth who were busy taking the shots and giving direction to the victims. A police officer said that divers have been engaged in search of the two youth but they are still missing.

In another incident at Krishnagar in Nadia, a loaded mini-truck fell into river Jalangi from a flyover on Sunday morning. Police said that the mini-truck was at a high speed and fell into the river after colliding against the railing of the bridge. Local people initiated the rescue work and rescued all the 13 people in the mini-truck.
