2 shot at near Bangladesh High Commission's office

Kolkata: Two youth were shot at by some miscreants when they were talking to each other on Meher Ali lane near Bangladesh High Commission's office on Monday night.
The incident occurred a little after 10 pm and triggered tension among the local residents in the area. The locals said that four motorbike-borne miscreants came to the spot where the two victims, identified as Hayder Ahmed and Parvez Ahmed, were standing. The miscreants came on two motorbikes stopped near them and shot at them indiscriminately. According to the police five rounds of bullets were fired at the victims.
The local residents rushed to the spot on hearing the gun shots and rescued the victims. They were rushed to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital and were later shifted to a private hospital at Ekbalpore as their health condition deteriorated.
Their condition is stated to be in critical. Police are going through the CCTV footages to identify the accused. According to the police, Hayder, one of the injured victims has a criminal background. Police said that Hayder received 3 bullet injuries while Parvez sustained two injuries. The miscreants had fled the spot before the local people reached the area.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that it was a result of a longstanding quarrel over promoting business. Police also got some clues that suggest that an old business rivalry might have led to the incident. Police have started a detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause of the incident. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits. A police picket has been set up as there was tension in the area.
