2 killed near NH 60 A as bike skids off road

KOLKATA: Two youth riding a motorcycle along the National Highway 60 A have been killed when the biker skidded off the road and rammed into the nearby divider.
The incident took place in Puabagan area of Bankura in the wee hours of Wednesday. The victims have been identified as Goutam Bauri and Somnath Gorai. Police said both the victims were marble labourers. They were not wearing helmets during the accident.
The victims, residents of Sanbadha village in Bankura, were going to their work place on a motorcycle on early Wednesday morning. When they were crossing Puabagan Engineering College, the bike skidded off the road.
As the bike was at a top speed, it hit against the divider causing serious injuries to both of them. Police came to know that Bauri was riding the bike while Gorai was the pillion rider.
It was learnt that the victims were lying on the road for a long time as the passing vehicles did not stop. Some locals spotted the victims lying in a pool of blood by the side of the road and reported the matter to the local police. Police reached the spot and sent the duo to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital where they were declared brought dead.
None of the victims were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Police also suspect that the bike was at a top speed when it skidded off the road. The riders could not control the bike due to high speed and it eventually hit the divider. The bike was later seized by police.
Police have started a detailed probe.
They are also investigating if the victims were drunk. They are waiting for the post-mortem examination.
