2 held with 2kg opium in West Burdwan

Kolkata: The Kolkata Zonal Unit of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested two persons in West Burdwan and seized 2 kg opium from their possession on Saturday.

According to NCB officials, on Saturday morning, a source informed that some people were about to smuggle opium in Burdwan.

Based on the information, NCB officials went to Burdwan and were waiting for a car at the Banskhopa toll plaza.

At night, NCB officials saw the car which was a SUV approaching the toll plaza. After the car entered the queue, the car was surrounded by the NCB officials.

Two occupants, including the driver of the car were compelled to get down. Later, the car was moved to a place beside the toll plaza and was searched. During the search, NCB officials found 2 kg opium wrapped in a polythene. Following the opium was recovered, the duo along with the opium and car was taken to the NCB Eastern Zone headquarter in New Town.

Later, they were arrested and the opium along with the car were seized.

The duo were identified as Shaikh Akkel Ali of Sajina in Birbhum, and Nandalal Mondal of Gaya in Bihar.

The duo is being interrogated to find out from where they procured the opium and where they about to deliver the consignment. The seized opium is worth Rs 3 lakh in the black market.
