2 from Nadia among dead, CM expresses deep shock

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her deep condolences over the killing of 39 Indians, who were kidnapped by the Islamic State terror group in Iraq's Mosul in 2014.

In a tweet, Banerjee stated: "Deeply saddened and shocked with the very sad news from Mosul. Words are not enough to console the 39 grieving families. Our thoughts and prayers with them."

Two out of the 39, who fell victim to the gruesome killings by the IS, are from Bengal's Nadia district. A pall of gloom descended after the announcement by External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday.

Khokan Sikdar, a resident of Tehatta Chitka village in Nadia, went to Iraq in 2011. Initially, he did not have to come across any struggle, but the situation worsened, and he had even planned to return. It was on June 14, 2014, when Khokan spoke for the last time to his family members.

Similarly, Samar Thikadar, who belonged to Nadia's Chapra Mahakhola area, went missing in 2014 when he went to Iraq to work as a carpenter.
