2 Class XII students chase down driver, thwart molestation bid

Kolkata: Two Class XII students risked their lives to chase a car on their motorbikes on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and saved a woman who was being abducted in it.
Police said that a couple was returning in their car after attending a New Year's party early Monday morning when they met with an accident on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
Though the accident was not that major, the driver of the other car with which the couple's car had collided started creating a hue and cry. He beat up the woman's husband and forcefully lifted the woman in his car.
He started driving, leaving the doors of the car open, as the woman kept crying out for help continuously from the moving car.
The matter came to the notice of many but hardly anyone took the initiative to rescue her. The woman's helpless husband could do nothing and tried to contact the police.
Two Class XII students were also present at the same location and heard the woman's cries.
Without waiting for anyone to take any step, the duo started off on their bikes and started chasing the car. It continued for almost 10 to 15 minutes and finally they overtook the car and forced the driver to stop.
As soon as the car stopped, the duo caught the driver and asked the woman to move out of the car. Within minutes, police and locals reached the spot.
A case has been initiated as the woman was being molested and the police are also trying to find out why the driver had attempted to take her away after the accident.
"We are trying to ascertain whether the driver did it out of anger or there was an old rivalry that led to the crime," a police officer said after appreciating the Class XII students for their presence of mind and bravery.
