2 arrested for stealing car wheels in Salt Lake

Kolkata: Two youths have been arrested for allegedly stealing car wheels in Salt Lake on Thursday night.

The accused youths, who were roaming in a car and were intercepted by a police patrolling van. The duo was produced at the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, Bidhannagar and was remanded to seven days police custody.

According to police, during the past few days Bidhannagar Police received three complaints in this regard. Last theft occurred on Wednesday night at AE block. Two residents of AE block on Thursday morning found that some miscreants had stolen the wheels of two cars and placed bricks to provide support to the cars.

Before this two more such cases were registered in Bidhannagar North and Bidhannagar East police station. On Thursday another case was lodged at the Bidhannagar North police station. Police collected CCTV footages of some CCTV cameras installed on the main roads and saw a van going inside the AE block.

But the registration number was not clearly visible.

However, all the police station were provided with the picture of the van and the patrolling vans were instructed to keep a stringent vigil across Salt Lake.

Late on Thursday night, a patrolling van of Bidhannagar East police station spotted a van parked beside an alley inside DL block. Seeing the police van, the car started moving. The van was intercepted by police and it was found that they were planning to steal car wheels again.

A few stolen car wheels and livers used for removing the wheels were found from the van.

The duo identified as Mahip Shaw alias Chiku and Sonu Thakur stated that they were stealing the car wheels and wanted to sell it to make money for Durga Puja days. Police are trying to trace the person who has his name registered with the van at the Behala Additional Regional Transport Office as per the database.
