Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of an 18-year-old student of a reputed school in South Kolkata whose body was found hanging at his Kalighat residence on Monday night.
Srijan Chowdhuri, a Class XII student and a resident of Debnarayan Banerjee Road was suffering from mental depression. At around 10.50 pm on Monday, when his mother knocked on the door of his room and received no answer, she suspected that something was unusual. She called her husband Subrata Chowdhuri and the two, along with some neighbours, broke open the door and found their son's body hanging from the ceiling fan with a saree. The Kalighat police station was informed and the boy was rushed to Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan on Sarat Bose Road where he was declared brought dead. The boy's mother had informed the police that he had gone to see a horror movie with some of his friends two days ago. The police enquiry revealed that the boy was suffering from depression for the last eight years and was also taking medicines to overcome it. We have not recovered any suicide note nor have we found any external injury marks on her body. No foul play has been detected," an officer of Kalighat police station said. The police had checked his mobile phone and have found nothing to suspect that the boy played Blue Whale game. In fact, downloading of Blue Whale games from the Google playstore has been restricted. "We are questioning his friends and family members to ascertain what triggered the suicide. However, there has not been any compliant from anybody. We are conducting probe initiating an unnatural death case," an investigating officer said.
