Initially, the work has been taken up as a pilot project in West Midnapore and Birbhum. Around 50 km road will be constructed in each of the two districts. Bitumen will not be used in these environment-friendly roads and instead, coal mix, discarded plastic and fly ash will be utilised to construct them.

The state Panchayat and Rural Development department has taken up the project. The pilot project will be completed within the next few months while the work of 1,204 km might get completed in 2017-18 fiscal itself.
